Programming This forum is for all programming questions.
The question does not have to be directly related to Linux and any language is fair game.

Question Objective-C Programming

Is there a serious community of Objective-C developers outside of apple? I've been doing a fair amount of objective-c programming for iPhone and am wondering what the community is like outside of apple. I am aware of gnustep for linux. Are there objective-c libraries for Windows as well? What is the cross-platform status of objective-c? Are there many open-source projects being developed using objective-c?

You can go to, click search (without specifying a word), and on the page that comes up, you can search for projects based on programming language. There are currently 1493 projects. It looks like most projects are for Mac OS X, but the most downloaded is HandBrake, which is cross platform.

Objective-C is a really great language, and it's been around for quite a long while (as long as C++, in fact) ...

But no. For whatever reason, it's not used much outside of the Apple community.

Yeah, looks that way. After using some of the gnu-step tools on linux it's clear these are way behind the Mac support.

Looks like Scala may be the Next step, no pun intended
