Object not added to 3d array java


int xPos =random.nextInt(9);
int yPos =random.nextInt(9);

//quadrant x and y
int qx =random.nextInt(9);
int qy =random.nextInt(9);

sector.quadrant[qx][qy].sector[xPos][yPos] = this;

is that not how I assign the specified element a pointer to the current class which is a commander object.
