no GCC ? Only GCC4.1

Hello all,
I've just installed Etch on my new laptop, I then went to install splashy bootsplash. when I went to configure I got the following error
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

However checking echo PATH shows usr bin which contains GCC-4.1 but no GCC. Typeing GCC -v shows no GCC. Is this a symilink problem with etch install? Can anyone offer any advise. Thanks

"error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH"

Many makefiles use cc as the name of the C compiler. It is routine to set up cc as a symlink to the C compiler that you are using, which in your case is GCC-4.1. Try setting up cc as a symbolic link to GCC-4.1 and see if the problem goes away.
