How do you create a movie file (avi, mov, mpg, etc)?
I know this is a pretty general question, but I don't really know where to start. I suppose if you know anything about the subject, you can point me to a website or book that has info on how to do this.
What I need to do is be able to generate some sort of movie file (from a sequence of images) that Windows Media player can play - I'm not too concerned with which type of format it is (mpg, avi, wmv, etc.), as long as the quality can be set high enough that it does not appear to be compressed. File size is not an issue.
Have a look at mplayer.
It comes with mencoder which can convert images into a movie file in various formats.
If it doesn't already come with your distribution have a look at www.mplayerhq.hu
I suppose you mean you need some code to generate video files. If you want to start from scratch, avi may be the way to go; avi are
created from dib frames (device independent bitmap) which are fairly
easy to create, you'll find descriptions with google help. Another possible
way may be tif streams, I believe Gimp can convert them to a video stream,
even mpg if I remember correctly. You may also want to take a look at
how xine and others are using Windows codecs.
