Get all registered applications in C?

Hello everybody!

I'm making a GNOME applet to make a menu, and i already found how to query all programs and get some infos by using GLib's GAppInfo.

However i do not know how to get all the possible application categories, does someone know how i could do this?

I presume i will not be able to use GAppInfo anymore, as i can't determine the category with it...

I also see this:

g_app_info_get_id ()
Gets the ID of an application. An id is a string that identifies the application. The exact format of the id is platform dependent. For instance, on Unix this is the desktop file id from the xdg menu specification.

Maybe i could do something with that?
