Unhappy external style sheet: list help


hi i have an xml document and a css document and im trying to make a numberd list but it just displays 0. for all of the list items,

this is the css:

content {
display: list-item;
list-style-type: decimal;
margin: 0em 2em;
font: italic;
}


and this is the xml document

<contents>
<content>Plant profiles</content>
<content>Garden workbook</content>
<content>Design project</content>
</contents>

but this is what it outputs:

0. Plant profiles
0. Garden workbook
0. Design project

I think "list-style-type" should be in the "contents" definition.
