/dev

Hi,
As far as I know /dev contains some files which are representing I/O devices as files. But there is still a problem...

If all IO devices refresh and refresh files and store files temporarily on the HDD, then there is a low speed with these devices. For example if the monitor stores its content on the file, with a 25fps movie I don't know what happens!

Thanks.

LoL!!! These are not real files!

They are device inodes - they contain a number, and the open call don't open the file but a memory area directed by the kernel. The Major and Minor numbers are these references. So, there are never real contents of them on hd (/dev/hd?? may be a problem if it is so)

So, what's your problem? If you need further infos how it works, read "Modern Operating Systems" by Tanenbaum
