Detecting mounts

Hello.

I'm writing an application that is required to exactly know when a new fileystem gets mounted. I don't really like the idea of having a process polling mtab (which, I've heard, is getting obsolete - is that true?) or /proc/mount.

So I'm wondering, is there any elegant way to get notified about each successful mount?

famd?

As you usually change the directory below the mount point FAM might be able to detect it.
