Compress and split a big sized file into smaller files
hallo,
there is any command that compress and split a big sized file into many smaller compressed files
for example a data file (file.data) with the size of 15 Mega bytes will compressed (by tar command for example) and divided to many smaller files of 3 mega each file (file_1.zip, file_2.zip .... ), because i have to email those files as attachments.
PS: I would like that the zipped files will be recognized and gathered by windows tools (like Win-rare tool)..
Not sure about a tool that would be recognized by Winrar, but a trick I saw someone on another forum use was to use a script that used the "split" command to split the file into pieces, and then it wrote a DOS batch file that was distributed with the files that used the "copy /b file01 + file02 + ..." form of the DOS copy command (my syntax might be a bit off).
