Can't get mySQL to work


I have just installed mySQL on SuSe9.1 (KDE 3.2) but I can't get mySQL to work as I get the following error

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

I searched on Google and found many people having the same problem but yet I couldnt find a solution, so can anyone help me ??

at the most basic level... you've not got mysql running at all. start it.

if you have mysql folder in $PATH it should be:
mysql.server start

if you don't then search for mysql.server and when you find it:
<complete_path>/mysql.server start

try /etc/init.d/mysql start
