autoconf -- variable for home directory

Hi, I am looking at this section of the autoconf manual.
However I do not see a variable $homedir for the actual user's home, so I do not know what is the proper way of creating a settings directory like ~/.myapplication and letting the application know that the user chose to store his settings there. Of course I could just hardcode "~/.myapplication" into myapplication source code, but is it the proper way?

Yes, it is. Plus you may add an option to specify the directory where to keep the configuration in, but this is rarely done.

Hi, Mara, thanks for making that clear. What is the option name for the settings directory?
