Any leads on a pre-configured stand-alone gcc toolchain?

Greetings,

I'm looking for an x86 native gcc toolchain structured as a stand alone package, much like the stand-alone lampp package. I don't want to have to install anything on the root drive, If I can mount it on opt, or just run in a user directory that would be optimal.

My need for this stems from interest in the olpc XO machine, and it's lack of space on the internal flashdrive which forbids such things as kernel compiles. I would like to be able to put a toolchain, with options to add extra compilers/libraries on an SD disk and just mount it when I need to do native development/compilation.

While I could roll my own, I would hate to spend a week doing it and then find out it has already been done, probably better, by somebody else.

Any leads or suggestions are appreciated.
