about password function

I am writing an application in c
in which i am planning to use system usernames & passwords for log in.

can any one tell me the way/ functions to use
I think my system (REDHAT 7.1) uses shadowed password system

ANY HELP IS APPRICIATED.

what exactly do you want to do??
do you want to compare a user's username with his password??

sorry for late reply,
But basically i don't check mail every day( twice week)

detail problem ,

For example i have wtitten service (in c) using sockets

My client sends a line to execute

on server i run it & pipe it's output & send to client etc..

But by writing this i have actually created security hole.
if am runing server side socket program with root previlage client will get same previlage.

So basically i want to implement security in my program.
