hello gang,
I bought a book on postfix and one of the first steps it says is to download the source, make some user additions and group mods, then compile it.
The complilation is the problem, here is the error i recieve.
the instructions are to copy the source file (wot i belive is the tar.gz) file to the root, tpye the command 'tar -zxvf <postfix sorcefile.tar.gz> -C /usr/local/src
do some user addition and group mod as i say.
then change to /usr/local/src/postfix-2.2/
then type 'make'
This is the result of the make command below:
Quote:
make -f Makefile.in MAKELEVEL= Makefiles
(echo "# Do not edit -- this file documents how Postfix was built for your machine."; /bin/sh makedefs) >makedefs.tmp
No <db.h> include file found.
Install the appropriate db*-devel package first.
See the RELEASE_NOTES file for more information.
make: *** [Makefiles] Error 1
make: *** [Makefiles] Error 2

The book recommends checking for the exsistance of a compliler before running make with the command 'gcc --version'. I have version 3.3.5.
Sorry i should have stated earlier, this is a debian 3.2 system, install from netinst image.
Can anyone help me please, if its not pai9nfully obvious yet i am a massive noob, but i want this thing working and i wont stop until i do.
Thanks guys.
