I know this is a Linux forum, and is more of an econimc question, but of all the places I have an account with, this place is most appropriate. However, this old Mac will probably run Linux many years down the world lol.
Does Apple do deals with their MacBook Pros on Black Friday? The only deals at various places are ones in which iOS things have deals, but none about MacBooks. Is Apple known to not like to do deals like this?
Apple may not, but places that sell them (like Best Buy) might. Personally, though, I'd opt for an XPS as you can take them apart easily and upgrade/repair them, and the parts are commonplace. Another plus is you get more than one (or none) USB ports. Just my opinion.
Thank you both - his college program mandates that he specifically a MacBook Pro 15", so we can't try to get a PC. If you guys or anyone else has another idea, please don't hesistate to share, even if this thread is like two weeks old.

now if it is a class on using APPLES video editing software ......
When I was at Ohio State in the mid 90's all pharmacology students were required to use Macs. I liked it because I took a PowerBook 170 with me and they had a MUG.
Yeah OS X is fairly standard in the video/graphics world. Guess it goes back to to Adobe's stuff initially just running on Macs. Thanks Germany Chris, will look there too!
More ideas are still welcome - cheap recent Macs are pretty scant.
