Output of 'apt-get update'

This is the output of 'apt-get update'. How do I interpret the indicated errors, especially the last one:

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

? The message is a bit confusing! How do I know what happened? Does it make a difference?

Here is a copy of my sources.list file.

Hi James,

Get:10 ftp://non-us.debian.org testing/non-US/contrib Release
Ign ftp://non-us.debian.org testing/non-US/contrib Release
Get:11 ftp://non-us.debian.org testing/non-US/non-free Packages
Err ftp://non-us.debian.org testing/non-US/non-free Packages
Unable to fetch file, server said 'Failed to open file. '

Look at the output : Err means Error
Seems that you can erase these sources. They are no longer used.
Nothing scary.

cheers

non-us is not used anymore. So get rid of any entries that point to non-us repositories.

Looks like your java rep may not be working either try adding:
#java
deb ftp://ftp.tux.org/java/debian/ unstable non-free
deb ftp://sunsite.dk/mirrors/java-linux/debian/ testing non-free
