new to mepis linux

Hello everyone.

I'm new to mepis linux.
So far things are running good, apt-get works and so does my wireless connection.
I don't have much experience with linux, only a bit point and clicking.

I have 2 problems which i can't solve;

My resolution:
I got a Iiyama ProLite E435S LCD monitor which is not on the list.
Mepis is giving me 1024x768 and i want 1280x1024.
I got the Official ATI fglx driver working standard.
Current monitor frequenties are:
V- 50.0 Hz
H- 30.0 KHz

When i change the frequenties and leave the monitor brand unknown i won't be able to startx or kdm. I get an X11 error when starting those up.
I was able to recover and avoid a re-install thanks to the livecd but i can't solve it.

I got this from Iiyama.com but got no idea what to do with it:

Horizontal sync 30 - 82 KHz
Vertical sync 56 - 76 Hz
Bandwith 135 MHz
Native resolution 1280 x 1024
Resolutions 1280 x 1024 / 60, 75 Hz
1152 x 864 / 75 Hz
1024 x 768 / 60, 70, 75 Hz
832 x 624 / 75 Hz
800 x 600 / 56, 60, 72, 75 Hz
720 x 400 / 70 Hz

This is my XF86Config-4 :

Also, and i don't know if that has to do with my monitor resolution but,
text/font do not look very good at all.
I've switched on anti-leasing and played with the configuration a bit, also downloaded the mscorefonts with apt-get and changed some fonts to Arial, but reading keeps being a pain, some letters in words almost look bold and misformed hehe.

Can anyone help me with this? I'm stuck atm. Each time i mess with my resolution i end up using my livecd and recovering :/

In the "Screen" section, which looks like this:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultColorDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 1
Modes "1024x768"
blah...

add
"1280x1024x" BEFORE every "1024x768" in every "Modes".

Change the resolutions in
HorizSync 30.0 - 82.0 # Warning: This may fry old Monitors
VertRefresh 50.0 - 70.0 # Very conservative. May flicker.
to appropriate(whatever your monitor supports).
I don't know about the fonts though. I have an LCD too. Try enabling sub-pixel hinting in KControl->Apperance->Fonts. Or try adjusting the font size in oscenter.
Good luck.

Also comment out the 1280x1024 modeline which ends in "interlace". You comment out a line by inserting a "#" at the start of it.

LCD monitors can become confused if fed an interlaced signal.
