How big should MEPIS be on dev?

Hi, I have a new MEPIS (v. 6) install, and I see that my (4.1G automatically allocated) hda /dev is already 56% full. Is this normal?

Seems rather large. But then I haven't even looked at apps yet (other than Firefox), so maybe it should be this large.

Also, I noticed most file permissions are r-x, allow access to 'world.' Can I change this globally to allow no access by world (i.e., change to something like 750)? I am not planning to be a server, after all.

It would depend on the installation you chose or the number of applications you installed, after all 4.1GB isnt very big. my /tmp is bigger than that.

which files have the permission set r-x? I am not sure you would want to change all files to a 750 permission.

As shown in Konquerer, practically all the folders where the permissions field begins with 'd' have r-x access for both user and 'world.' The only exceptions are '.gconfd' and '.mozilla'.

Probably I should be less worried, both about permissions and about my drive being full of files (hard to see what's taking up all that space, though!). After a decade spent on Win systems, I've probably become overly paranoid.

Thanks for responding.
