www access 2 network cards

Hi,

i have a samba server which is now supposed to firewall a subnet.
The main network is on eth0 the connection to the internet will be made over a router which is in a different subnet. How can I make the forwarding of the packets work. I already setup the dhcp and the dns server which are working fine, but I can't access the www from the clients on the subnet behind the samba server.

Any suggestions? Please point me to a HOWTO if possible.

Kind regards,

Martin

I'm running Mandrake 9.1 with samba 3.0.0rc1. The DNS and DHCP are from standard Mandrake installation.

If everything is enabled for routing then check whether routing is switched on in the kernel: cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward. If this reads 0 then echo 1 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward to fix it.
You will need to add this to a boot script or the setting will be lost at reboot.

If this is not the problem then try iptables -F and see what appears.

My apologies, I meant iptables -L. Look for Policy DROP and type iptables -P chain ACCEPT where chain is INPUT, OUTPUT or FORWARD (Most probably FORWARD) to enable data flow.

Reading the man pages for the iptables command will also make clear how to set up an effective firewall.

Hi,

this is all empty. This is the very first time for me to deal with this type of stuff. As you already might have realized.

Are you getting any output at all?

You will need to be running as root to execute iptables. Also as root try "lsmod" and look for iptables or ipchains. If ipchains is on the list then try "modprobe -r ipchains" and then try iptables.
