WMV Playback In Firefox

Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering is there a way to play WMV or MPEG video files in the firefox browser?

I tried to get the essentials codec from the mplayer site but I wasnt able to get it to work.

Any links or suggestions would be greatly appreciated ^^

Have you tried the MediaPlayerConnectivity plugin from the Firefox site? Connects Firefox to the player/s of your choice. Have mine hooked up to Kaffeine & Amarok & works a treat. You'll still need the win32codecs from PLF (Google/Scroogle Easyurpmi, add the PLF repositories as per instructions on site then install from MCC), & a path to Real codecs added in the configuration (latest Kaffeine/Xine don't seem to do this by default). Mozplugger might also be worth a try, but personally I've not had much luck with it in prior versions.

Not sure. I have come across a couple of places (forget where though!) that it didn't work on, telling me to download the latest Windoze Media Player instead, so maybe not. The majority of sites seem to play nicely though.

To miclem,
I'm running Mandriva 2007 also and I have most Windows and Real video files working with Kaffeine after much work.
I still can't get the videos on www.cnn.com to load and run. I always get the pop-up window that I need Windows media player and get redirected to MS's site. I have worked on this for over a year with 2006 and 2007.
My biggest complaint now is that it takes many seconds for the Kaffeine player to load while I'm looking at a black web page stating that it is using the Kaffeine plugin to start a seperate Kaffeine session to view the Windows media.

Yup cnn is one of 'em! Never had that message though, & usually get playback within a couple of seconds, even if Kaffeine is booting from scratch (no icon in the panel). If Kaffeine is already running it always uses that player (didn't know it was possible to have 2 Kaffeines running simultaneously...).
