Why are the ISO images for MDK10 711mb?

I was looking at different mirrors to download Mandy 10 Community today and noticed that on some sites the ISO's were 696mb and 698mb while on others the ISO's were 711mb each

How will a 711mb iso fit on a 700mb disk? Why are they different? I am currently downloading 3 isos from the same server and all are 711mb+.

Will these work? Whats the deal?

I remember this conversation from 9.2 - it's weird but they fit 700mb cd's.

It's to do (I think) with the way the space is calculated - in bytes or megabytes - a kb is not exactly 1000 bytes etc.

You are probably burning with Nero under windows. If you are there is a patch for nero. I have it in my How-To for 9.2 at http://www.linuxloader.com/modules.p...showpage&pid=1. Its at the bottom of page one. That How-to will work for 10.0 too.

CDR space

Whatever happened to basic knowledge?

1kb = 1024 bytes. Thus 711MB = 694335975 bytes !!

I appreciate all of the replies. I have just never seen it written like that at any of the mirrors I've used before. As for the 'basic knowledge' comment, no reason to be rude. We all have different levels of computer knowledge, that's what this board is for.

Thanks everyone that replied. I'm sure other people had the same question and understand better now.

Thats great except that Nero(if thats what he is using) needs a patch. The unpatched version considers 1 Gig as 1000MB which is wrong, of course. The patch corrects this by making 1 Gig = 1024 MB.
