Alright, I've been using Mandrake 9.1 for awhile now... I want to upgrade to the newest Mandrake version, but I've heard horror stories about breaking hardware, incompatible hardware, etc. Should I upgrade, or not?
Unless you have very specific hardware (prehaps with binary-only drivers that require a specific kernel) you should be safe.
I've gone from 9.1 -> 10.1 w/o any major problems. The biggest problem was after upgrading, during network startup, I got errors about "arping" and
"Error, some other host already uses address" and the network wouldn't go up. The quick solution was to edit /sbin/ifup and remove the arping lines.
You'll probably need to check your /etc files as well. The upgrade won't overwrite your old conf files but write a .rpmnew, like /etc/ssh/sshd_config.rpmnew.
And some daemons might whine a little about the old ones.
