Timeout server w/ DSL pppoe Mandrake Move

Test driving Mandrake Move 9.2 as LiveCD I set up modem DLink DSL-500G (already works with Ubuntu Breezy Badger LiveCD or installed WinXP) using the MMC wizard. Then as root type adsl-start and am online first try to DSL telco's web portal. But as soon as try to surf the Web in Konqueror I'm getting "Timeout on server, Connection was to portal.veloxzone.com.br at port 80" messages. I can ping telco web portal normally using domain name or decimal URL; adsl-status shows link up; ifconfig ppp0 also looks good; so nothing more to do than adsl-stop and quit.
Grateful if anybody can tell this newbie which file I should tweak. Thanks. Dave
