Running Mandriva makes network adapters dysfunctional in XP

Hey guys,

I installed dual-boot XP and Mandriva LE2005 on a new computer. After booting Mandriva, on my next XP boot I was unable to use my Marvell Gigabit LAN port that is integrated into my DFI LanParty UT nForce4 motherboard. The network adapter is still present, but Windows believes the network cable is unplugged (even though it's not unplugged or a bad cable.) By the way, the Marvell LAN is secondary, there's a primary nVidia LAN port. Is there any way I can resolve this?

I'm not sure if the Mandriva installation would affect windows settings, however does the LAN still work in Mandriva? What response do you get from windows when you "right click" on the icon?

I am experiencing the same problem with Mandriva LE 2005 x86_64 and Windows 2000 Professional.

I also have a Marvell Gigabit LAN integrated in my via kt800pro chipset and after installing Mandriva LE 2005 x86_64, Win 2000 gives me 'network cable unplugged' and I can do nothing about it. Network still runs fine in Mandriva though. Does Mandriva change something to the hardware settings that win2000 can't cope with??
Windows responds to everything I try as if the cable were really unplugged. In Windows configuration screen al settings seem to be normal (auto-sense= true, etc).

Yeah, Mandriva changes _something_ in the BIOS, because I was able to get the network back in XP by clearing the CMOS and reinstalling everything in XP (no, reinstalling everything before clearing the CMOS did not work.) I actually uninstalled Mandriva today, because of other problems. When I changed the display driver, I couldn't get past the BIOS during boot, and had to jumper a safe boot. Anyway, I'm going to try something else first. Knoppix is already cool. There's also a distro called coLinux (Cooperative Linux), a full Linux kernel that runs through Windows 2000/XP, using Windows device drivers so that it doesn't interfere with anything. Anyway...is there a way to find out/specify what Linux jacks with in the BIOS?

I was able to recover network in Windows by installing the 'share files and printers' service in win2k. Don't know what it was but it's all over now.

Hmmm. And booting into Mandriva after that wouldn't ruin it again?
