Removing KDE 3.4

I am trying to remove KDE 3.4 to upgrade to 3.5. I used:
rpm -e --nodeps 'rpm -qa | grep -i kde | grep 3.4'
and I got this:
rpm -e --nodeps 'rpm -qa | grep -i kde | grep 3.4' is not installed
Does this have something to do with not installing KDE from an rpm? What can I do to get KDE uninstalled? Thanks for any help.

have you used the ` or '
from your post it seems that you used ' so it is trying to find the whole string in your rpm database.
maybe
