either reboot from a winXP cd and do a repair install

or

boot from a win98 floppy and run

Code:
fdisk /mbr
That should restore your DOS MBR

Cheers

Overwrite /dev/hda.
/dev/hda7 is your linux partition and restoring that boot record won't matter to Windows.

Ahh, this is connected to your other post. Please don't post the same problem under different threads.

Try selecting the Console option in the rescue CD.
Mount your / partition on /mnt (like 'mount /dev/hda7 /mnt')
Run 'chroot /mnt /bin/bash'
Now the system thinks the CD' s /mnt is your HD's /
Try grub-install or run grub manually as I described in the other post.
