program freezing

i just installed Mandrake 10.0, most of the programs that i try to run crash or freeze as soon as they start up. Kaudiocreator and k3b show up every time i start my computer and freeze, kaudiocreator says that there's no encoder and k3b freezes when it scans for cd drives. Totem Movie player hasn't started up at all yet, it says it's starting and then does nothing.
the worst part is that "configure your computer" freezes at the start screen and can't be closed unless i restart
is there any way to fix this? or at least make those programs stop loading as soon as i start up my computer?
