Problems with obtaining 1400x1050 resolution with NVIDIA drivers
I have read a few other threads regarding this, and i've tried to edit my XF86Config-4 to match theirs, but it still wont work. I still cant seem to get the 1400x1050 resolution working on my Dell Inspiron 8200 LCD Display.
Is there anyone who could please help me to get a definite solution, its not good to be working on 1024x768 resolution.
Im using the NVIDIA 5336 drivers, installation went on fine and all, only that i cant seem to get 1400x1050 resolution, pls any sort of help will be very much appreciated.
And im on Mandrake 10.0 Official with the 2.6.3.7 kernel.
Thanx
thx for the link, and sorry for the double post, was kinda desperate in fixing this problem. In fact i was at that page u referred me to, i'll give it a go again with the XF86Config given there.
Ive tried it again and again, just cant seem to work, i really got no idea why.
Is there anything im missing out? Can i have a copy of ur XF86Config-4 if possible
And, actually, that is the relevant portion of my XF86Config file (not -4) in the link above.
The key for me was setting the HorizSync and VertRefresh values.
Also, breeze through those Inspiron 8200 links at the linux-on-laptops link: http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/dell.html
You might find some related info in there regarding your distro and your XF86Config-4 file.
Mmhhh, after a few tries, i got the 1400x1050 to work now.
I reconfigured the display card to Nvidia Generic n then edited the XF86Config-4 by replacing the device section with "nvidia" and somehow its working now.
Thanx for the help, appreciate it alot, have u got any problems with ur on board sound card?
There seems to be a lot of conflict goin on with my my kmixer on KDE.
Good for you. 1400x1050 is way better that 1024x768.
I'm using slackware. alsaconf and alsamixer got my sound working.
I see you're new here. Go to the top of the page and click on the search button.
Search for 'mandrake sound ac97' or something similar. Start a new thread for this one if necessary using a descriptive title like you did with this one.
In my previous post I had swaret --updated and --upgraded my slackware laptop system, including the kernel, to 2.4.26 as I recall. alsaconf worked.
After a botched kernel upgrade to 2.6.6, I had to reinstall. This time I didn't upgrade the kernel, or any of the other EXCLUDE stuff in swaret.conf. Then I ran into the problem that has been reported a million times here. alsaconf no longer found my sound device.
So, I reinstalled the old alsa files from the slackware CD and it's working again.
I wonder how much of the other swaret upgraded stuff is gonna puke when it finds out the kernel is still at 2.4.22?
