problems with booting Mdk.

Hi!
Once again, I keep messing around too much with my system ;-)
This time, my problem occurs at boot. I tried upgrading some KDE-packages from 3.2.something to 3.4.something. For example I tried upgrading kdebase and kdecommon, all through URPMI. However, now I can't seem to even get into my system any longer. After a reboot, Mandrake loaded just fine, until it came to Starting ALSA-version 1.0.6: emu10k1 [OK] . It loads, but then stops. I've had the boot screen on for over two hours, and it dosen't boot any more from that point on. I've tried starting without X and it works fine. However, as soon as I try to start X, as root, I get the same old error.
What have I messed up, how can I prevent myself from doing so again in the future and is there any way to fix it?
Thanks!

\\Jeff

You've probably messed the KDE versions. The main KDE packages and also Qt must match the versions, otherwise you'll have problems. If you believe KDE upgrade was the problem, either update all the KDE packages, or downgrade them all (KDE 3.2.3 for Mdk 10.1). Also note that newer versions may rely on some other libs outside of KDE project.
