my problem is: I can read from CD-RW, but can't write and erase.
My OS is Mandriva 2006. This distribution include k3b. When I try to erase or write CD, my system freeze.
I used to have that sort of problem with Mandrake 10.1, where the computer would just freeze when burning a CDRW. The problem wasn't there when I was using 9.1 and 10.0 with this machine, but soon became a pain in 10.1. In the end, I downloaded gcombust and tried it, and didn't get one problem using it. Even with 2006.0, I get the occasionally problem writing to a CDRW with K3b, but I don't get a problem with gcombust. Odd problem, because both applications are merely GUI frontends to other applications like cdrecord and cdrdao, which are the applications that are doing the work in the background. I have no problem burning CDRs with K3b, BTW.
gcombust isn't that pretty and is quite limited, but it does seem to work fine for me when burning CDRWs. You might want to try it and see if it works for you.
Distribution: Mandriva mostly, vector 5.1, tried many.Suse gone from HD because bad Novell/Zinblows agreement

Rep:
you can try to download latest k3b and compile from source
you can try to use cdrecord vanilla version (should be on your dvd) with current vrsion of k3b.
