I have XP on NTFS and tried linux as other OS. successfully installed
mandrake 10.1 community version using minimum 3 CD distribution and some one suggested me to install mandrake 10.1 offficial, I tried to install mandrake 10.1 official , after the installation, the system freezes and it didnot start .

Have any one had successfully installed mandrake 10.1 official in laptop.

timely help will be appreciated.

Not sure the current one I download from mandrake linux is the right one or updated one?

Is there any new 10.1 official after bug fixed. can I download?

This probably won't help you much but, I have a Dell Inspiron 5160 and am currently running Fedora Core 2 and WinXP but I did have Mandrake 10.1 official running for a time and installed it from the dvd.

Some more info would help too, how did you system freeze? What was the last thing that it did, where is your boot loader installed? Stuff like that.

i used partition magic and put that boot loader in first partion of root not in mbr.
mbr has windows.

It is dual XP and linux Os, I first intalled 101. community version and then I
try to install 10.1 official over the community version.

Everything is fine upto the end of installation and then I start reboot
it started linux and then while reading the startfile or reading verbos
it stays and freezes and didnot go fuirther.

I downloaded 586 ISO image file ?

What exactly the move linux is files does?

Where I can get DVD ISO 10.1 ?

thanks

The DVD is part of the retail power pack.

I'm running 10.1 on several laptops w/o problems.

A few laptops have rather braindead APIC/APM implementations, and in this case you must provide some kernel parameters to work arround the issue.

You haven't said what hardware/laptop you have.

It would be helpful if you post this information.

There is very little difference between community and official.

However it's likely that Official tried to install the Nvidia drivers while Community probably used the SVGA drivers.

You may want to start out by re-installing Official but when you get to the video setup choose the SVGA driver.

After you have everything running, you can try to move over to the Nvidia driver instead.

Several people have done it this way on

You may need to specify a kernel parameter to fix this.

Boot up into "safe" mode.

Edit /etc/lilo.conf

look for the line which reads append=

under vmlinuz

Add to it

noapm nolapic noapic noacpi

Then run

lilo

as root from a console

See if this cures the freeze.

Then work backwards removing one entry at a time, running lilo again.

Another question, It version with minimum 3 Cd doesnot hve fortran compiler
and gnu , where we can get that or update all new glut libraries .

Is there any specific website has all the compilers and glut or necessary libraries for
mandrake linux.

thanks a lot opjose.

Ok what "made it work"?

Post it so that others can see.

As far as other compilers, etc.

Now you are in for a real treat.

See my signature below?

Follow that link and do what it says in the directions.

Just make sure that you select 10.1 for your sources.

Do as it says.

Once done run "install software".

An you have a myriad of new applications available to you.

Just browsing through all of them will take quite some time!
