Problem extracting PHP 5.1.2 source

Im having trouble installing ispconfig (2.2.0) on Mandriva 2006 Free
all seems ok until it gets to the PHP install:

ERROR: Could not configure PHP
cd: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory

i have tried extracting the PHP source that comes with ispconfig on another pc running mandriva 2006 free with Gnome desktop using file roller 2.10.4 but i get an error saying: output string too long
and ive downloaded the source from it does the same.
what am i doing wrong (linux newbie)
