I've an Omnibook 6000, dual boot with win XP and Mandrake community 10.1

I need to use a PCMCIA USB cardbus in it.
If I insert the cardbus when Mandrake is already booted, the system freezes completely, and the only way to unfreeze it is to remove the card.
If I try and boot with the card already inserted, I get a message 'irq10 is disabled' and then the booting freezes. So at the moment I cannot use the card it seems.

But it works OK with Win XP with no problems.
Also, my PCMCIA modem works fine in Mandrake, as does the ethernet card bus.

Any ideas please

Try to do a search.

I posted a long thread one something similiar dealing with a Mini-PCI card.

The edits I used (as well as enabling ACPI) solve this problem.

I've since gifted the aflicted machine to someone else so I can't document the steps here, but it's on that thread...

I also recall that it concerned a DELL Truemobile WiFi card.

I had the same problems with my Pavilion as you.
