Nvidia Driver

Running 10.1 Official (upgraded via urpmi from CE). No problems with install or Nvidia driver. However, have just changed my card from a GF4 MX440 to a GF4 Ti 4200 and have not seen the expected increase in frame rate with "glxgears". Am I supposed to be using a different driver? Or passing different auguments to the driver as it loads? HardDrake detects card correctly as a Ti 4200.

what's the FPS output? i get around 4400 average with a GEForce ti4600 card. a 4200 should be close to that, maybe 1000-1500 FPS less than that, or so, i'd think.

I'm getting 1000-1040fps, which is what my MX440 was doing. I wonder if I should uninstall the driver and then reinstall it?

are you sure the driver is loaded? in terminal as root do........

make sure it displays Nvidia/AGP info & such. if not, see the Nvidia link in my sig for any help you might need with the driver install. there is an issue with MDK10.1 udev & Nvidia.

also, please note, i'm just guessing that the 4200 card would get better numbers than you are. i'm not absolutely possitive on that, though. maybe somebody with the same card will post their results & if they're in the same range as you're getting, then there isn't much else you can do.

yup, that all looks as it should. so, it might just be that that's all the speed you're gonna get out of that card. i know somebody who has the same one (ti4200). when i see them (should be tonight) i'll compare their FPS to yours & post it here. if it's about the same, then that's as good as it's gonna get.

until then, one other thing you can look into. if you haven't already, read the Nvidia link in my sig & look towards the end for NvAGP options. if you don't have one set in xorg.conf, try one. i'd start with option "3", 'cause that one almost always gets the best results.

Tried the NvAGP option and got about another 20fps out of the card. Have been reading the Nvidia docs that go with the driver and it might be that the driver is using the wrong openGL libraries on my system, have to look into that.

Success, have uninstalled the driver and then reinstalled and now get 3250fps in glxgears, thanks for all your help.
