no x server on boot


when i boot up there is no backround when its booting just all the commands it goes through then just goes to login no graphical interface. i think it displays something but it comes and goes to fast. is there some type of startup log file that would have all that in it. and my inittab is set to 5 default?/ any thing will help thanks

If you want to see the boot messages look in the /var /log/boot.log file (as root).

i dont see any error msg's so does anyone know what could be the problem?

You could try switching login managers to something like mdkkdm or gdm. I think it defaults to kdm so thats probably what you're using. I would check first if your x system is working. If it drops you to a command line login after a reboot...login and startx to see if x comes up. If it does, I would then change login managers to see if that does it. Just some suggestions. Not sure what the problem could be.

still the same thing.
when it boots up though i dont get the loading screen that says starting system press esc for verbose mode it just automaticlly does verbose mode without a backround

well i kinda fixed it it still shows the text login screen but only for like 5 secs then boots up the graphical login screen
