No File Or Directory

Hello, I've installed Mandrake 10, when trying to install the Nvidia package with mb drivers from root....I am told that there is no such file or dir.

The terminal is open in the doc dir where I dl'd the package, if I try to run the package install in the terminal but "not" in root it does progress but stops and tells me I must be in root.

as new to linux...I'm lost

any ideas

I'm guessing that you've put the file into your home directory (or any directory not in $PATH) and running it without using ./ at the start.

This should work. Replace path.run with the full path and filename of the file:
Code:
su -c 'sh path.run'
The su means to run the command (in single quotes) as the root user; you will need to enter your root password.

sh means to run the command in a shell; this gets around any problems with not setting the right execution bit on the file when it was saved.

see my sig for Nvidia install instructions.

to get into root mode from command line, at the prompt type su (hit enter) then type root password (hit enter). you must be root to run the Nvidia installer. also, you must either be in the directory where you have the installer or give the proper path to it. say you downloaded the installer to /home/(you)/downloads/nvidia, to get to that directory you would type at the prompt........ cd downloads/nvidia (hit enter). you could then run the installer with just the sh (name of nvidia installer ) command. if you don't cd (Change Directory) then you must specify the path to run the installer, such as.......... sh /downloads/nvidia/(name of nvidia installer). finally, the command to run the script is caps/punctuation sensitive, so make sure you have all that correct.
