New installation - No sound

Hi again !

Just installed Mandrake 9.2, but I have no sound. Sound works perfect when running Windows.

My soundcard is Sound Blaster Live.

Where do I start solving this?

I'm new to Linux.

i can't help you much cause i haven't had any sound problems under Mandrake (just other distros like RedHat and Slackware). Is it giving you any errors, or are you just not getting sound? Try opening up KMix (KDE menu-->Multimedia-->Sound-->KMix) and turning the master volume all the way up. When i first installed Mandrake my sound wasn't very loud but this fixed it. You can also open up HardDrake and play around with your sound hardware config (KDE menu-->Configuration-->Hardware-->HardDrake).

Yep... and PCM and CD aswell (in kmix) - if you still have no luck post the output of

lspci -v

and

dmesg | less

you can definately get drivers for the Soundblaster live from the ALSA souncard matrix - but for now just post these.

i don't think lspci works in mandrake 9.2

try typing lspcidrake -v (hehehe lspcidrake--kinda funny, isn't it?)

The sound is working !

I started KMix and I found my sound was turned off. I turned everything on and its working perfect.

Thanks a lot !
