Networking Problem here...

im really new to linux and its networking... i have 2 computers one with windoze xp and the other one is mandriva 2005, i have a router, set in dhcp but i set the linux box to my router to have a static ip, both can access internet...

now windoze xp firewall disabled, and on the linux ive installed samba... when i try to ping my windoze box using mandriva it has no problems... but when i ping the linux box using windoze no response...

i cant even see the linux box in the neighboorhood of xp...
already tried to install LinNeighborhood on mandriva and same problem i cant see the windows network either....

Check to see if your mandrake machine is using the same group name
the default is something like mdkgroup
you will find this in samba conf
you may configure samba with either SWAT or Webmin

this is an excellent online guide for networking
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/linag2/book/index.html

and here is the samba guide
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/...TO-Collection/

regards
