mplayer and kaffeine

guys , i try to play a movie by using mplayer , but it is displayed with ugly colors(black and white) ..but when i try to play it with kaffeine , it is ok..and strangly it is played well on mplayer after using kaffeine ?!!
why is that happening in mplayer ?is it something like kaffeine loads a library which mplayer need,but mplayer don't load it ?

i have mandrivia 2008

Do you have all the codecs (win32 and real-codecs especially) installed properly?

well i don't know .. i just installed the OS with default setting .
how to know if teh codecs was installed properly?
i have googled the subject but found not much , all what i found is that mplayer on mandriva 2008 is patched with a patch for video , which sometime s work broken on 16 bit mode , but nothing changed for me when i chane to 24 bit mood ?
