You can easily use your Linux machine on a Windows network using Samba. I'm not sure about actually joining the domain like a windows client would do, but winbind should do that. With Samba, it will show up in the network neighborhood and you can easily share folders and printers on it with windows users and connect it to other folders and devices shared by windows servers and clients. Understanding and configuring the Samba configuration file, and linux file permissions is where you would do that. On Mandriva, the Samba config file is usually found in /etc/smb/smb.conf. Make sure samba is installed and running.
