MD10 ATI-DualHead! How to switch displays???

Hi guys, i'm getting angry at ATI.
I got a Radeon9800XT with a CRT Monitor connected to VGA and a beamer connected to the DVI-output. Now this is just soooo stupid. Why the F*** is that DVI port treated as primary if you connect VGA and DVI??? From the moment i finished the installation process my Monitor went completely black because my beamer was treated like he's the boss here. I for myself have my main monitor connected to the VGA port and im connecting the beamer through a DVI-VGA Adapter (for watching movies'n stuff).

Well, after MUCH search in the forum and endless repeats of "fglrxconfig, etc" i reached a point where my ATI-Drivers are working, 3D accel. is turned on and i even managed to get DUAL Head configured. So now i get a different desktop on each output. Just the way it should be. Only problem is that my beamer is STILL the primary desktop (starting the beamer just to be able to hit the reboot option sucks )

Now my question is how do i switch it? How to make my CRT the primary monitor?

kind regards
Hatman

I use two monitors, but I'm not quite sure exactly what is the problem you are describing (I've had no problems with it). Just physically switch your monitors around (left to right, or right to left) so that you get the main monitor on the side you want.

The problem is that my beamer and its screen are installed on a shelf / wall. I cant just move them around.

Furthermore there are some things that are ONLY shown on the primary display. For example the shutdown screen (when u try to log off, where to choose log out, reboot, etc). So i had to turn on the beamer every time i log off (btw a beamer cant just be turned on instantly, it needs time power up first and then to cool down after turning it off). Of course i could just switch the connectors at the GFX-card but that would mean i would need to switch those EVERY time i boot into the other operating system (i'm also using dual-boot with winxp, wich runs just fine...)

I never had this kind of problem with other Linux distros too. same driver even i think...

i'm puzzled.

I'm running Windows AND Mandrake. In windows the CRT is the primary display (wich is normal IMHO). In Mandrake the DVI-out is...
The Linux ATI driver just assumes that whenever both connectors are used the DVI one is the primary. If u run fglrxconfig, in the Dual-head config u're only giving the option to configure them like this: "DVI (p) , CRT (s)" . But NOT: "CRT (p), DVI (s)" like i would need it. I consider this a flaw in the drivers...

Anyway there should be a way to switch primary/secondary manually, and THATS what i'm searching for.

Any suggestions?

Switch them from windows. Let it think your DVI is the primary.
