Mandriva playing up

I tried to reinstall mandriva on my old laptop from another version of linux but the install process is coming up will all sorts of errors. Can anyone give me a hint at what I am doing wrong?

Not unless you tell us where and when it is going wrong.
We need to know what tasks it was performing, any options that you selected that may affect the install, etc.

The installation gets fine upto the actual installation. After it starts installing it comes up with these error messages saying a file is incompatable,retry or ignore and if you click ignore more of the things come along and everything just breaks down.

I can't be that much of a help as I don't want my system to be erased.
