I am a linux newbie but have used Mandriva 2006 and wanted to use the latest version. Got a new PC...
Hardware:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
ECS nforce4m motherboard
1 GB RAM
40 GB SATA drive
GeForce 6200 128Mb PCI EXpress 16X dual head, tv out
16 X DVD rom drive
Samsung Syncmaster 192MP
Everying with the installation appeared to go fine. When rebooting the system after it was done, all I got was a blank screen with no options to switch to other parts of the console. I did verify the video card selection was correct by restarting setup using the CDs and testing several different configurations but got the same results.
Finally I realized if I chose either Linux-nonfb or Failsafe, the system would start up fine. What can I do to check to see what is hanging the system. If it helps, the system hangs fairly quickly after Linux begins loading.
Any help on this would be appreciated. I did test the system with Ubuntu and it came up working fine. I'm really curious to know why Mandriva won't work.
maybe if you boot into failsafe, you can view the system logs? I think command is "vim /var/log/syslog" only without the quotes. This may have been a stupid reply, it all depends how much of a newbie you really are. Hope it helps you. Ohhh yeah, If you find something interesting, that would be what you would want to post. That is how you would get someone that knows a lot more anyways.
Usually, when Mandriva cuts out on the "normal" boot image, it's usually because my resolution is either too high, or my selected resolution isn't available with the video card, or the drivers are messed up.
