Mandriva 2007 HungUp

Hello all

I have just installed Mandriva free 2007 on my PC.
When loging in into KDE, the mouse (usb InteliMouse) becomes working very slowly and i have get no network communication. I have examined the /var/log/kernel/errors and found the following lines:

kernel: ACPI Unable to locate RSDP
kernel: sda assuming drive cahec write through
kernel: pci_set_power_state(): 0000:00:11.0: state=3, current statte=5
kernel: irq 11: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)
kernel: handlers:
kernel: [<ccd61410>] (usb_hdc_irq+0x0/0x60 [usbcore])
kernel: Sisabling IRQ #11

kernel: pci_set_power_state(): 0000:00:11.0: state=3, current statte=5
kernel: ...etc

I have followed de advice, went to GRUB and set the "irqpoll" option on kernel load.

The system now starts ok, the mouse and ethernet work, but after being working some while on kde, the system completely hangs.

This PC had Mandriva 2005 installed before and it have been working without any problems.

(the system is an AMD-K6 processor, with 192 MB RAM, 86c368 Trio 3D/2X video card and 3c905 100BaseTX eth card)

Any one have seen a similar problem? Any tip how to solve it?

best regards
Antonio

Source of cd/dvd? re errata

can alt f4 give you any messages when PC hanged?

Have you got a wireless?
Did you try to disable transparency in xorg.conf?
You are not running 3d desktop are you?

Did you disable all the not needed services?

Run tail /var/log/syslog in a terminal until PC hangs, any clues?

have no idea what happens to your PC. Any more info you can offer. Any software/tasks in kde causing trouble. How big is the swap?

you may even want to recompile kernel and take out anything you do not need, if we do not find a way to solve this

I have news about that.

I really didn't try any other graphics environments but KDE.
After I went to KDE "Configure Computer -> Hardware Configuration" and, changed the "Trio 3D/2X" video ram option from 4MB to 2MB and the problem stoped. The only problem i notice now, is that after the PC is left running for a day not logged in X, the screen appeared scrambled i had to restart X server to come back to normal.

I didn't disable any service neither transparency in xorg.conf, and don't know if 3D is activated! I can i check it?

I have a second problem now:

I am nor able to ping the mandriva server from outside, neither establish an SSH connection, but can access apache and the apache teste page. From madriva i can ping to outside with no problems and access the internet.
I tough that was a firewall limitation. Went to the kde configuration and disabled the firewall, and also checked the ShoreWall that is not active also, but the problem persists.

What can be? There is any base configuration that limits the ports the server listen to? I have installed linux with security higher option.

Sorry for that basic questions, but i am a beginner with linux.

regards
Antonio
