Mandrake official 10.1 Dell 5150 post install issues

System Specs:
3.06 ghz
30 GB
512 MB
Nvidia GeForceFx Go5200

Installation Process:

-Set my language to english
-accept to the license
-chose erase all contents of my disk to install
-waited till all 3 disks were done installing
-set root password
-added user
-chose to automatically logon with KDE
-installed bootloader into 1st section of drive (mbr)
-configured my graphic interface with "geforce fx"
-(i've also done a reinstall without configuring it)

Problem:

After installation when I choose "linux" I noticed a freeze during the loading screen, and when I go into fail safe mode I notice this error message

hdc: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0 x 24
hdc: DMA Interupt recovery
hdc: lost interupt

the error just repeats

can anyone give me detailed steps, on how to fix this issue?

hdc is (most likely) your CD/DVD. If it's removable, try booting with it removed.
If that works, try adding noapic to your boot line (lilo.conf or menu.lst depending on if you use lilo or grub).

hdc: Toshiba ATA Disk Drive
ide1 at 0x170-0x177 0x376 on irq 15
hdc: max request size 128 kib
lost request

so my hdc is my hard drive.

how do I get into the boot menu? when I hit the power button it brings me to the "linux, linux-nofb, failsafe" choices, and when I hit escape on that menu, I cannot choose anything besides those.

Do you have multiple HD's ? The master on the first IDE interface is hda, the slave is hdb.
The master of the secondary IDE is hdc and so on.

When you escape you get a "boot: " prompt right?
Enter 'linux noapic' <enter>
You can also try 'linux acpi=off'

Perhaps you forgot to install the X rpms.
Check with 'rpm -qa | grep xorg' . You should at least have xorg-x11-server, xorg-x11-75dpi-fonts, xorg-x11, libxorg-x11 and xorg-x11-xfs.
startx for instance is in the "xorg-x11" rpm.

If you haven't got anything installed try 'urpmi drakxtools-newt'
Then run 'XFdrake' and configure.

I ran 'urpmi drakxtools-new' and the messege 'everythings already installed' showed up

then I typed XFDrake and my settings are already configured

Graphics Card: Custom
Monitor: Custom
Resolution: 1280x1024 8bpp

I ran the test and I recieved the rainbow background and the notification box and I checked yes.

I also ran the other two commands you gave me, each on their own, and they both seemed to extract things

The problem is still the same.

I lowered the resolution to 800x600 and I can get to the desktop, thanks again for your help. I'll see if I can install my GeforceFX Go5200 drivers. Thanks again!
