ok, my freind is running windows 2000 and i am running mandrake linux 10.1 community. i want to be able to share files both ways, and play a computer game via lan (neverwinter nights) what exactly do i need to do? do i need a special program? or do i need to chage some settings in network conections? i tried simply plugging in the ethernet line but it couldnt connect. thanks for any help you can offer

What u need is a proggie called Samba. In Mandrake 10.1 just go to your install packaging and search for samba. It might need a bit of configuring or it might just work....(check in filesystem, network and see if Windows Network appears).

ok i installed samba and got it running but i dont see my freinds computer on it and he doesnt see mine on his, further more his networking icon in his taskbar sais hes not recieving and packets from me, i think the problem is the networking built into mandrake, becasue when i plug into his computer the network plug on my taskbar wont connect, it works for internet fine, is there anything i need to do differently to make it work on a network? its iether that or im just not getting the rite settings for samba (theres a lot of them) can someone post a link to a faq or guide for my specific situation?
