You seem to think that you have a problem with Mandrake installing smoothly from CD #1 but forgetting that it has two other CD's to install. I think otherwise.
When it reboots, is it really at the point where it's time to install CD 2? I suspect that actually, there's a problem with something else and the installer is rebooting, but it happens to be at a point before you insert CD 2.
Of course, if you've never seen a proper Mandrake installation before, you don't know what is *supposed* to happen. Perhaps you could tell us what screen is showing just before the reboot? For example, Mandrake 10 starts with the following screens (if I recall correctly):
- Press Enter to install or F1 for more options
- (you might have some text screen asking you how to install: from CD-ROM? FTP? etc.)
- what language to use?
- install Mandrake afresh, or upgrade an already existing? (This is if you already have an earlier version of Mandrake installed)
- security level?
- disk partitioning?
(followed by whatever disk partitioning screen)
- format which partitions?
- what packages to install? (Office workstation, Multimedia station, etc.)
- (optional) Are you really sure you want to install these servers?
... after all this, then it starts installing from the CD for some ten or fifteen minutes
AND THEN it asks you to insert the next CD to install more stuff
So, where in this process does your installer reboot?
For the record, here's what happens next in the installation process:
- add one or more users
- where to install the bootloader? (Master Boot Record of the hard drive, first partition, floppy?)
- summary of configuration, with option to modify
- want to download some updates?
Then you're done.
By the way, when you say "it sends me to the kernal [sic]", I think you mean the text shell, rather than the graphical user interface. You can still do a number of useful commands from the shell (also known as CLI, console, terminal, etc.) and, with more information, we could guide you through figuring out what's wrong.
