Mandrake 10 and ATI problems!!

Hi there

I'm running Mandrake 10 and am having problems getting my ATI Radeon 9600 card working.

I've run fglrxinfo and got this: (presumably telling me that the ATI drivers aren't being used...

************************************************************************
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project:
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 4.0.4
************************************************************************

I've run fglrxconfig, supposedly to create the ATI "XF86Config-4" file and whilst this adds all the ATI details to the file, this doesn't seem to do anything at all...

My "XF86Config-4" contains details about my grafx card but obviously the Mesa drivers are being used instead. My question is this: How can I make the ATI drivers default and ensure that they're used everytime to get my card working????

any help is most appreciated!!!

thanks

fglrxconfig creates a new XF86Config-4 file, if you run the program as root, it should create it in the correct location - are you running fglrxconfig as a normal user?

yes run it as root

What kind of motherboard do you have?

Mainly if u run lsmod
fglrx and your agp module should be there

my motherboard's details are as below (I've got a shuttle SN45G):

"Mainboard FN45
CPU = Socket A AMD Athlon/ XP & Duron K7 200/266/333/400MHz FSB
Chipsets = North bridge:NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 South bridge:MCP-T
Memory = Dual Channel DDR 200/266/333/400 * 2
IDE interface = ATA-133 "

I get this when I run lsmod:

"bash: lsmod: command not found"

I've tried all combinations of caps and non-caps to no avail...

thanks again

I have a nforce board too
you should be able to run lsmod as root

What I did simply is install the drivers, modprobe nvidia_agp
restart x (ie ctrl+ alt + backspace)
run lsmod as root and you sould see

fglrx
nvidia-agp
agpgart

you need these three things to run it properly

then fglrxinfo (not as root) just to be sure its showing up properly

Definitely helps...I used it too, and I was up and running Unreal Tournament 2004 in no time..I have a Shuttle SS40G with a Radeon 9700Pro, and it is working great!!

I had to compile my own module , but with a bit of searching on the web, it really isn't as daunting as I thought it would be..

Those two files are installed by the ATi proprietry drivers for linux. If you have installed them, the default location (and I believe the only location since it's an RPM) is:

/usr/X11R6/bin/fglrxconfig

If it isn't there and you have installed them, then you may wish to reinstall the drivers. If you haven't installed these drivers, head over to ATi's website and download their linux drivers!

Good luck!

Steve
