Mandrake 10.0Official and No mouse problem

Hi,

Yesterday I try to move from Mandrake 9.2 to Mandrake 10.0Official. I want to stress that I had no problems yesterday when I was running 9.2 version. The CDs I used where already used on another laptop (not compaq) and on this laptop there was no problem with getting working linux.

I have done complete new instalation. I have laptop Compaq Presario 2100. ATI Radeon graphic card.

During instalation both mouses (touchpad and usb) mouse works but when I reboot and get KDE none of the mouse respond. I test the usb mouse using mousedrake during installation and it works fine, but after booting the mousedrake simply shows the mouse does not work.

I have tried many different things (I was reading on the net) and this what I have tried.

1. Turn on ACPI support and change one line in modules.conf file. Can not post the link (forum restrictions, sorry)

2. Change Xfree config file as suggested in one link (can not post again due to forum restrictions, I'm a new user)

3. Unplug USB mouse and try to use only touchpad.

4. Turn of PCMIA services, as suggested in one french post.

5. Use 4.3XFree with no 3D hardware support

6. Turn off NFS service (it was by default turn on when I choose sshd and it caused some error messages when booting)

Right now, I gave up. I'm looking for another distro, unless you give a good tip and I manage to solve my problem.

Please help,
thx,
radsz

I solved

Hi,

I solved the problem.

Apparently choosing LSB (Linux Standard Base) to install is very bad idea. There are some unresolved kernel issues. I've got tons of strange error messages and no mouse working.

Simply do not choose LSB when choosing packages classes to install.

Hope you have the same problem as me.

Good luck.

I think this mouse pad problem is inherent to the 2.6
kernel present ini Mandrake 10.0.
Just boot with the old kernel 2.4.** or configure lilo
to do so:

You can run Drakeconf and then in the system options
choose the boot options. In there fall back to the
old-linux i.e. the 2.4 kernel as the default booting kernel.
Don't forget activating ACPI.

Good luck!

You have the bugged release, whereas rc1 worked . I got round this problem via:

You should install 10.0 community or amd64, with a standard mouse and usb mouse together.

On installation use the usb when you can otherwise go to the standard,
when you get to the summary screen test the mouse again and finish the installation.

if you fail to test here the mouse disappears down a hole.

Hmm, I cant get ACPI to work..

If I enable it in lilo the machine halts during bootup and then just sits there.

Any pointers would be helpful to fix this
