I guess you can say I'm a newbie to Mandrake, you probably will with my question lol. Alright I just finished downloading the 3 Mandrake CD ISOs but due to their size and the capacity of my CD-RWs I can't burn them to CD-RWs, I do though have a 4.7GB DVD-R that I would like to burn them to. The target system to install Mandrake on is an HP ze4240 laptop and it has a DVD drive. So my question is how do I go upon moving the ISOs onto the DVD so I can go straight through the install and what do I need to do?
You should be able to open up the isos and mix them together to put on the DVD. If you're doing this from Windows, you can open the ISOs using WinRAR (I think) or some other ISO-reading software.
The first ISO has the main stuff so you can use that as your base. Put its contents on a folder on your HD. We'll call it filesfordvd. The second ISO should have two directories - boot and Mandrake. Copy the boot directory and but it in filesfordvd. Inside the Mandrake directory, there will be a folder named RPMS2. Take the RPMS2 folder and put it in filesfordvd/Mandrake/ (where there should be a folder named RPMS anyways. The third ISO should just have a Mandrake directory containing RPMS3. Place the RPMS3 directory in filesfordvd/Mandrake/ as well.
When you are ready to burn, take the contents of filesfordvd and burn them onto the dvd. Do not burn the filesfordvd folder itself. You'll also want to make sure the DVD is bootable.
I've never actually done this before, so don't blame me if you get a coaster. I've never even burned a DVD, let alone a bootable one, so you might want to check on how to do that before you get burning. Also, this is all off the top of my head. CD-Rs are cheap so getting three of them might save you some trouble.
In any case, make sure your laptop's optical drive is bootable.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm searching for the answer for this myself. However, I already tried this and it does not work. Apparently the setup program checks the cd's integrity, and then aborts the installation because the DVD is obviously different from what CD 1 would be. I think it has something to do with the PRM-GPG-KEYS that is in the root directory of the CD. I will play around with it a bit and see if I can get it to work (and let you know if I do of course).
Anyone already know a way of putting all the CDs on one DVD?
Mixing the ISOs does not work due to a checksum done before the installation process, as mentioned above. And do you realize how expensive a corporate membership is?
What we need to try is to download the whole Mandrake directory, not the ISOs, and attempt to burn that and see if it installs.
